We designed the Change Climate Project Business Emissions Evaluator (BEE) as a highly usable and intuitive tool for companies to measure their carbon emissions. To support claims of carbon neutrality, Change Climate Project has aligned to international standards for measurement: the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the ISO series of GHG accounting standards. By nature, it is difficult to create software that aligns perfectly with the measurement guidance that we get from ISO and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, since the guidance is written for a human to interpret on a case-by-case basis. Use of the same tool, with different inputs, will lead to varying degrees of compliance. We strive for the right balance between adhering to the guidance and creating tools with high usability.
The BEE has known, small, methodology gaps, which we have documented and explained below. We know transparency and integrity are important to our users, and provide this list as a reference to our ongoing work to close known gaps in order of their significance.
You can get results from the BEE verified to ISO standards, and output from the BEE has been used to set verified Science Based Targets. If you are doing this, it will be useful for you and your verifier to be aware of these gaps.
We're always looking for volunteer contributors to get technical with us, so reach out to
